BMW is working on an electric M5 with more than 1,000 horsepower
In the second half of 2020, the heavy-duty Tesla Model S Plaid electric car is expected to be released. Earlier, it managed to overtake the Porsche Taycan, setting a world record. It seems that soon these cars will have another serious competitor in the face of an electric version of the BMW M5 with a capacity of more than 1000 horsepower.
It is assumed that the Tesla Model S Plaid will be cheaper than the Porsche Taycan and will receive a price tag of 100 to 150 thousand dollars. It is not reported how much the new BMW M5 will cost. What is known is that the development of an electric car is in the initial stages, and it will hit the roads in the next 5 years.
It is reported that the electric car will receive three engines with a capacity of 250 kW each, two of which will be placed at the back, and one at the front. This should provide the car with an impressive 750 kW of electricity, which corresponds to a power of 1006 HP. According to preliminary data, the new BMW M5 will need only 2.9 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h.
Instead of the cylindrical elements that Tesla uses, the new car will receive classic batteries of 135 kW, capable of charging at a speed of up to 350 kW. This should provide the electric car with a range of up to 700 kilometers. However, at the moment there are only 9 stations in the world, located in the UK and Ireland, capable of producing such power. It is possible that the infrastructure will be more developed by the time the new electric car is released.
