MINI to release quietest sports hatchback
The British confirmed the development of a sports hatchback with an all-electric power unit.
MINI has confirmed the development and released photos of a camouflaged prototype of a new all-electric sports hatchback. The production version of the new product, which will be one of the first such cars in the world, should debut in 2022.
The silent electric hot hatch will be a symbiosis of the commercial electric vehicle MINI Cooper SE and the 306-horsepower gasoline - powered John Cooper Works GP hatchback - the most powerful and fastest car of the British brand. From the second one, the new product will borrow, among other things, an aerodynamic body kit with a characteristic massive wing.
There is no data on the power plant of the electric hot hatch yet. The standard MINI Cooper SE electric car is equipped with a BMW i3S engine that produces 184 HP (135 kW) and 270 Nm of torque. The engine allows the hatchback to accelerate from zero to "hundreds" in 7.3 seconds, and the maximum speed is forcibly limited to 150 km per hour. A set of lithium-ion batteries installed under the floor of the car provides a mileage of 235 to 270 kilometers.
MINI will not be the first brand to experiment with sports hatchbacks equipped with electric powertrains. Moreover, such cars still exist only in the form of concept cars. For example, in 2017, Renault introduced the Zoe e-Sport prototype with two engines, producing a total of 466 hp and 640 Newton meters. The concept car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 210 km / h takes less than 10 seconds.
