Google has started adding image thumbnails to search results
As part of an experiment, Google began showing thumbnails of images in the search results. In particular, thumbnails were seen in the main search results and in the Google Suggest drop-down list.
Adding image thumbnails to search results is implemented the same way as in Google News. However, as you can see in the screenshot, Google does not add a thumbnail to all sites. Experts assume that thumbnails are not received by sites where images are not present in structured data or in the Open Graph Protocol meta tag.
Google is also testing thumbnails in the Google Suggest drop-down list.
According to experts, displaying thumbnails works well in Google News. It is unclear whether the images will be useful for users of the main search. Conclusions can be drawn after testing.
