Apple may rename iOS

19 June 2020, Friday By M. Konwar
According to a new rumor, Apple may abandon the name iOS and return to the name iPhone OS.

Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser, who has previously reported accurate leaks more than once, believes the company will return to the name that was last used as iPhone OS 3 in 2009.

Given that iOS 13 is really only applicable to the iPhone after launching iPadOS in 2019, this will not be an unexpected change.

Apple's other operating systems - watchOS, tvOS, and macOS - are descriptive, so it makes sense that iOS might follow suit.

On Tuesday, June 22, Apple will host a virtual WWDC conference. The company traditionally demonstrates its operating systems that are under development during the year, in anticipation of wider deployment in the fall, and we expect this year to be no exception.

So, what can we expect from iOS / iPhone OS 14? Recent leaks suggest that Safari might get a neat automatic translation tool. Other reports said that a new package may be available that combines key subscription services such as Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, and Apple Arcade into a more affordable package.

Third-party applications can also be installed as default programs for certain tasks. For example, if you use Spark for email, clicking on the email address will automatically open this app instead of the default mail tool.

Again, there are rumors that Apple may release widgets for the home screen, which were popular in Android from the very beginning.

As always, some design changes, security updates, enhanced privacy features, and important updates to major apps are expected, as well as many new features.
