Bendable Royole FlexPai 2 with flagship hardware priced at $1470
The Chinese company Royole has presented the second version of its FlexPai smartphone, the predecessor of which debuted in the fall of 2018. The brand's new device features a large outward folding display, an improved hinge mechanism, and advanced hardware based on the flagship Snapdragon 865 processor.
Royole FlexPai 2 received a flexible OLED display with a diagonal of 7.8" with a resolution of 1920x1440 pixels. When folded, the owner of the gadget will have access to a 5.5" "main" screen (1440x900), on which there are shortcut buttons along the fold, or smaller on 5.4 inches with a resolution of 1440x810 and a camera unit on the left edge.
An eight-core Snapdragon 865 processor in combination with a 5G modem is responsible for the performance of the smartphone. Depending on the configuration, the gadget is equipped with 8/12 GB of RAM and a 256 or 512 GB storage without expansion. The battery capacity of the model is 4450 mAh. The thickness of the device is 6.3 and 12.8 mm in the open and closed state, respectively, the weight is 339 grams. The manufacturer claims that the life of the hinge and flexible screen is up to 200,000 fold cycles.
Royole FlexPai 2 is equipped with a camera module with four sensors. The main sensor at 64 MP (f/1.89) is complemented by secondary sensors at 16 (f/2.2, wide-angle glass), 8 (telephoto lens, 3x optical zoom, f/2.4), and 32 MP (f/2.0, dedicated selfie sensor). The smartphone camera app also offers a dual-screen photo mode.
A touch button is located under the lens block, which can be used to unlock the device and activate the multitasking mode with a split-screen into several separate windows. The operating system on the smartphone is proprietary firmware waterOS 2.0 based on Android 10.
In China, the new product in gray, black, and gold cases will arrive on September 25 at a price of $1470 for the 8/256 GB version, the 12/512 GB modification will cost buyers $1710.
