Inexpensive OnePlus Z will be released in July
OnePlus made a name for itself in 2014 with the launch of the OnePlus One, a smartphone with top-notch features, and a mid-range price tag for just $299. Since then, prices for the company's flagship smartphones have jumped up. This year, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have starting prices of $699 and $899 respectively.
Now, it looks like the company is preparing to release its first mid-range smartphone since the short-lived OnePlus X.
There are rumors that the OnePlus Z smartphone may appear in India on July 10 at a price of about $330.
According to research published by a DesiDime forum participant, the smartphone can have a mid-level processor combined with a high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, three rear cameras, and other features that are rarely found in smartphones of this price category:
- 6.55-inch Super AMOLED display with 90 Hz refresh rate and built-in fingerprint scanner
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor with 5G modem
- 6 GB RAM
- 128 GB of internal memory
- Rear cameras with a resolution of 64 megapixels + 16 megapixels + 2 megapixels
- 16-megapixel front camera (built-in display)
- 4300 mAh battery with 30 W fast charge
Android Central reports that the launch of the smartphone is scheduled for July 10 in India, although the site says that the date may be changed (as well as the name of the smartphone: it may also get the name OnePlus 8 Lite).
It is not yet known when the OnePlus Z will be available outside of India. But if you believe the rumors about specifications and prices, the smartphone in the global market can make a serious competition to the upcoming Google Pixel 4a.
