Asus ROG Phone 3 hidden feature enables a record display frequency of 160 Hz

The Asus ROG Phone 3, along with the Red Magic 5G and Lenovo Legion Phone Duel smartphones, has the highest display refresh rate at 144Hz. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the animation when viewing the menu and during the game. However, as it turns out, the Asus ROG Phone 3 can do more than its competitors. XDA Developers have discovered that the ROG Phone 3 has a hidden option to enable a 160Hz refresh rate.

To enable this new mode, you need to run the ADB command adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 1. After that, you will need to restart the smartphone and the option will become available in the refresh rate selection menu.

If you need to return to the default settings, you will need to enter the adb shell setprop debug.vendor.asus.fps.eng 0 command and restart the smartphone. Of course, these changes are made at your own risk.

Higher refresh rates result in higher power consumption and lower performance as the processor has to work harder. The Asus ROG Phone 3 has one of the most powerful processors, the Snapdragon 865 Plus, so it can run stably at 160Hz. However, despite the 6,000mAh battery, increasing the refresh rate could have a significant impact on the battery life of the device.

In addition, there are not many games and applications today that support 144Hz refresh rates, let alone 160Hz. However, it's interesting to see this option on an existing consumer smartphone, even if it's hidden for now.
