NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 outperformed RTX 2080 by almost 70% in the first benchmarks

NVIDIA announced during the first presentation of the GeForce RTX 30XX line that the new RTX 3080 will be twice as powerful as the 2080 — at least in matters related to ray tracing. This has already been partially confirmed in game tests, and now it's time for benchmarks. As it turned out, the manufacturer still exaggerated. But only by 30%.

GeForce RTX 3080 benchmarks

The VideoCardz portal published the results of the CUDA and OpenCL tests - the GeForce RTX 3080 outperformed the GeForce RTX 2080 by an average of 68%. In the case of the RTX 2080 Ti, this figure dropped to 40%. At the same time, the benchmarks used a new flagship with 10 GB of memory, as well as 68 computing units with a frequency of 1710 MHz. Whether testing was carried out on a reference version of the Founders Edition video card, or a custom one from a third-party manufacturer, the source does not specify.

The VideoCardz authors noted that such tests do not reflect the real capabilities of the GeForce RTX 3080 in games. A more interesting experiment for gamers was previously conducted by technical experts from Digital Foundry. In general, they got similar results compared to the RTX 2080, but they still managed to find a title that, when launched, the new product doubles its predecessor.
