TSMC announced the release date of the first 3nm processors
One of the largest manufacturers of mobile processors TSMC spoke about the timing of the release of a new generation of chips, which will be manufactured using a 3-nm process. In addition, it became known which company will be the first to receive the flagship processor family.
According to representatives of the chipmaker, in 2021 it is expected to release trial copies of 3-nm chips, and their mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2022. The first batch of the latest processors will be delivered under a special order from Apple, which has been actively cooperating with TSMC since 2016.
Earlier, the CEO of the Taiwanese company noted that the transition from a 5-nanometer to a 3-nm process allows you to increase the density of transistors by about 70%. At the same time, the computing power of the chips increases by 10-15%, and their power consumption is reduced by 25-30%.
In addition, TSMC is already engaged in research in the field of mastering an even more "subtle" technological process. The company plans to build four new plants with a total area of 90 hectares. According to the vendor's roadmap, testing of the 2-nm process will begin in 2023, and mass production will begin in 2024.
