EOS C70: Canon introduced the first EOS series movie camera in a compact body
Canon Europe has announced the release of the EOS C70 multi-function camera, which combines the capabilities of the Cinema EOS series with the compact EOS R mirrorless body. The new product is designed to create high-resolution video content and is compatible with a wide range of lenses with RF mounting.
Canon EOS C70 received a proprietary Super-35 DGO (Dual Gain Output) sensor with a dynamic range of more than 16 stops. The camera is capable of recording 4K @ 120 fps slow-motion video with active Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, and in Super-16 mode, recording at 180 frames per second is available. The Canon EOS C70 supports recording to two SD UHS-II memory cards in Canon XF-AVC 4K (4: 2: 2/10 bit) or MP4 (H.265) format, allowing you to create high-resolution movies for documentary and reportage footage, as well as music videos and various web content.
The model was the first device in the line to be equipped with the EOS iTR AF X intelligent tracking and recognition system with face and head contour recognition algorithm. The camera also features automatic ISO selection and is the first Canon cinema camera to feature a dedicated vertical shooting mode focused on social media content creation.
The body of the new product has 13 customizable buttons, a multi-function handle, an HDMI port, and two mini XLR audio connectors, as well as an independent ventilation system. Other features of the model include an updated ND filter system that provides up to 10 shades of dimming, expanding exposure and depth of field control, as well as the ability to record in different formats, resolutions, and with different color depths to memory cards in different slots.
The company also introduced the proprietary EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter for attaching EF lenses to the RF mount. With this accessory, filmmakers can complement the camera with telephoto lenses, zoom optics, and other types of professional lenses. The EF-EOS R 0.71x is equipped with an optical converter that provides a full-frame view on EF lenses even when combined with a Super-35 sensor and increases light transmission by approximately one stop. In addition, the CJ20ex5B IASE S wide-angle lens with a 20x zoom and a focal length of 5 mm for cameras with 2/3-inch format sensors was added to the brand's assortment.
The date of the start of sales and the price of new Canon products will be announced by the manufacturer later.
