JBL LIVE 300TWS review: comfortable TWS headphones with cool sound
Wireless headphones are a good option for everyday use. They have already got rid of the problems of the first generation and proved their worth. One of such interesting TWS models is the new JBL LIVE 300TWS, which promises high-quality sound, convenient control, and various features in the branded app. Testing the accessory and getting to know it better.
JBL LIVE 300TWS are made in the form factor of in-ear plugs with replaceable ear pads. They protrude slightly from the ear, but not enough to create inconvenience when using. Mounting is carried out using soft silicone stops. The correct position of the plugs is achieved by turning the headphones themselves in the ear until the JBL logo is strictly horizontal. In this position, the arc of the stop goes under the ear septum. The kit includes attachments and stops of three sizes.
The case cover is held in the closed position by a magnetic attachment. It is durable, accidental opening is excluded. Inside the case, there are headphone lodges with contact pads, in which accessories are fixed with a pleasant soft click.
In the pocket of jeans, the case is unlikely to be convenient to carry - it is large, but in a backpack or jacket - it is ideal. Four color options are available: white, pink, black, and blue.
JBL LIVE 300TWS support Google Fast Pair technology. For the first pairing with an Android smartphone, you need to open the case and wait a bit. After a couple of seconds, a notification will appear on the phone, by clicking on which a connection will be established. After pairing, the system will offer to set up a voice assistant, supported by Google Assistant and Alexa. Another notification will helpfully lead to the page of the proprietary application My JBL Headphones on Google Play, it will be installed in the background without opening the client. In many other models, pairing and connection are manual, not to mention downloading the client.
When switching to the utility, the user must provide the necessary permissions (nothing extra, everything is on the case). Then the gadget will scan the immediate environment for supported devices and display an image with TWS and the model name. The following adjustments are available in the application:
- TalkThru: a mode of broadcasting sound from external microphones, which also reduces the playback volume, so that the owner of the JBL LIVE 300TWS can hear the interlocutor.
- Ambient Aware: a transparency mode in which you can hear the surroundings at the same volume. Microphones work on headphones.
- Gesture controls: swipe forward is configured on the body of the left earpiece and front to back on the right. One of the two modes mentioned above is activated on the left earpiece, and volume control is available on the right.
- Equalizer: there are three presets (jazz, bass, vocals), you can create your own preset.
- Auto play/pause, auto power-off outside case.
- Activation of Google Assistant or Alexa.
- Headphone search function with a beep.
- Software Update.
Management without questions
In terms of ergonomics, everything is worthy. The new product comfortably fastens in the ear, especially if correctly selected nozzles. Commands for single, double, or triple pressing are worked out clearly, the touchpads have good sensitivity. Occasionally, an accidental touch activates an action. An important nuance: when making a specific gesture, you need to get into the middle of the touchpad, otherwise the gadget will take a swipe for pressing. You need to practice and work out the touch. But after that, there’s no need to go into your pocket for a smartphone to increase the volume.
For JBL LIVE 300TWS, the IPX5 protection level is declared, so there will be no problems if you get caught in the rain while running.
The optical sensors work well: the music is instantly paused when the accessory is removed, and just as quickly resumed when the earbuds are back in your ears.
Although the JBL LIVE 300TWS does not have the largest driver installed, it will be healthy, including due to a reliable intra-channel landing. Audio pleases: a good volume of the scene, all the instruments in their place, the vocals are harmonious and do not overlap the sound range, except perhaps a bit too much low frequencies. However, this is a subjective impression, because there are lovers of such bass. When wearing headphones for a long time, there is no pain or discomfort. Note the passive noise isolation - at 60% of the volume, you can easily not hear the doorbell.
With such good noise isolation, it is better to play sports outdoors with Ambient Aware turned on - with this function the sound is slightly worse, but it is easy to hear an approaching car. The JBL LIVE 300TWS has a dual microphone in the phone mode with noise and echo cancellation enabled. When testing this scenario, the interlocutors noted a clear sound, without interference and extraneous signals.
The new product honestly fulfills the stated 6 hours on a single charge, and this figure does not depend on the mode of listening to music. Of course, if you talk a lot on the phone through headphones, they will discharge faster. The case will help you increase your overall autonomy to 20 hours. There is a quick charge: just spend 10 minutes at the outlet to be enough for an hour of using the TWS accessory. A full recharge of the case takes a little less than two hours, and the headphones themselves-about an hour.
